PRB: Run-Time Error Message 3705 Occurs When Trying to Set the ActiveConnection Property of an ADO Recordset to Nothing

Symptoms
When you attempt to disconnect an ADO Recordset by setting its ActiveConnection Object property to Nothing, the following error message might appear:

Run-time error ‘3705′: Operation is not allowed when the object is open.
Resolution
Only client-side ADO recordsets can be disconnected. The specified error occurs only when you attempt to disconnect a server-side ADO recordset.

PRB: RDO/Jet: Run-Time Error 40069; Client Cursor Error 11 or 12

Symptoms
When you run a SELECT statement against the Microsoft Jet ODBC driver usingRDO and the client batch cursor engine, you receive one of the followingtwo error messages:

Run-time error 40069
Client Cursor: 11 – No update tables are specified
-or-

Run-time error ‘40069′:
Client Cursor: 12 – No key columns are specified for the update table
Resolution
When using the client batch cursor engine, and opening a static resultset,you must use the same case as in the table when typing field names into theSELECT clause of the SQL statement. This applies to the primary key fieldand any BLOB (Binary Long Object) columns–LongVarChar and LongVarBinary.

BUG: Data Form Wizard Mishandles ‘-’ in Table or Field Names

Symptoms
When loading a form created by the Data Form Wizard, you may receive one ofthe following error messages:

Run-time error ‘-214217900 (80040e14)’, “Syntax error in FROM clause”
-or-

Run-time error ‘-214217904 (80040e10)’, “No value given for one or morerequired parameters”
Resolution
If the data source for a form created by the Data Form Wizard containsa dash ‘-’ in its name or in the name of a field, it is required that thedata source name or field name be delimited by brackets in a SQL statement.The Data Form Wizard does not include brackets around these names.

PRB: Error Setting Field Format Property of Access Tables

Symptoms
From Visual Basic, when trying to specify a field Format property of anAccess table (for example, field type DateTime) from blank to “Long Date”format, the following error occurs:

Run-time error ‘3421′:
Data type conversion error.
Resolution
The property data type constant should always be “dbText.” If other datatype constants, such as dbDate or dbNumeric are specified, you willencounter the error described above.

PRB: Error Assigning Non-Opened Recordset to ADODC

Symptoms
When you attempt to set an ActiveX Data Objects (ADO) Data Control’sRecordset object to a previously dimensioned ADO Recordset the followingerror is returned:

Run-time error ‘3704′:
The operation requested by the application is not allowed if the objectis closed.
Resolution
This error occurs when the recordset has not been opened yet.

PRB: DAO Run-Time Error 3146 When Modifying SQLServer Data

Symptoms
When attempting to delete or update a record in a SQL Server cursor, the delete or update operation succeeds, but the following error returns:

Run-time error 3146 “ODBC call failed”.
Resolution
This behavior occurs when SQL Server does not return a message indicating the number of rows returned by a statement. SQL Server does not return a message indicating the number of rows affected by a statement after the following commands have been executed on SQL Server:
